The tally of vehicles burglarized in FSR overnight 20-21 June is now six according to homeowner accounts. Victims reside on Atwell Park (2), Burnwood (1), Sweetwood (2), and Twinpost (1). So far all incidents occurred on the south side of the neighborhood.

One thing that should help is the concept of gated community but we have a flaw. Tailgating!
I do have a clicker but when someone comes behind me (at any time) I do not know if they live in Finesilver or not. We should establish a procedure amongst all of us where the car behing conciously waits until the gate starts to close and then use its own clicker... and maybe even have the car in front just stop pass the gate until the gate starts closing.
I know, I know... it sounds surreal and wishful thinking but in reality it's just about everybody's willingness to participate and being conscious. It could work!
Then there's the case I heard where a well-meaning resident did just this: stopped at the gate to allow it to close behind before the "tailgater" could enter.
The resident said she'd never do that again because the "follower" became very irate and aggressive. It was a scary moment and not worth the trouble according to the good Samaritan.
Thanks for the dialog. I agree: Participation and consciousness are key to keeping a community safe -- no matter what the problem is.
I agree and it's certainly not a good idea to do this without everybody in Finesilver agreeing to this before hand... we probably need some other measure.
On another community where I lived years ago while in Puerto Rico, they had a gate arm before the actual gate and this one closed faster so anyone trying to tailgate would certainly be hit by the arm. Just another thought!
As a neighborhood we should seriously consider posting someone inside of the gatehouse. Perhaps it could be manned by neighborhood volunteers manning it during the evening to early a.m. hours when there appears to be higher instances of burglary or other crimes, or on weekends only. Having someone in the gatehouse who has a complete listing of residents would deter many who have no reason to enter FSR. Why can't Blue Armor Security do this?
It sounds good, but having volunteers at the gate is difficult to sustain. Even the most well-meaning folks would eventually grow weary of working the gate during those hours.
More importantly, we risk putting neighbors in harm's way. Unlike Cellular on Patrol volunteers who are instructed by SAPD to "observe and report" only, a gate guard has the potential of direct contact with the criminal element. Further, uncomfortable situations and misunderstandings with residents and legitimate visitors alike may result should their be a mistake or oversight with the list.
Professional staffing of the gate is very expensive. Through our requests for proposals from security companies we found the HOA can't generate enough revenue to implement an eight hour shift at the gate. The dues from the 400 or so units in FSR just aren't enough.
We review the possibilities of a gate guard each contract year with Blue Armor. But these services will probably continue to be out of reach.
